Summary of session one
By DuDu de Cenry'Vas

The party of heroes arrived at the town of Stonehill early in the afternoon. Not having an exact location of the ruins they are looking for, they decide to talk to some (what seemed to be) towns guards to inquire about the town, it surroundings and local activities. What I managed to get out of the two chaps, other than that this region does not offer any means to *cough* relax the nerves of weary travelers, was the following:
1. Goblins roam the area much more than they used to. They seem to come from the nearby ruins.
2. A traveler named Roda died nearby. His body is kept by Korky, the local cleric.
3. In order to solve goblin problem, Sir Bradford, what I suspect to be the so-called town champ, established a party to investigate the nearby ruins. However, they never returned... his sword is the sword we are to return to Dan.
4. Tonight, there is a seasonal festival to celebrate the change from winter to spring. Here 2 men seek to present their new beer: Owlbeer! As you will discover later on in this summary dear reader, the taste was to my liking and I would very much like to invest in this great product!

After this encounter the party headed on to the local inn, to secure a place to sleep and, off course, have a nice drink. The inn already had a tap of Owlbeer hooked up and man was it good! The beer broke the ice with some locals, who I could persuade to talk about the towns recent history:
1. 17 years ago a strange man showed up in town. He asked about the close-by ruins. Oh, and he was accompanied by... giant frogs. Strange. He went by the name of Bellak, but has not been seen since.
2. About 3 years later a strange fellow showed up at the seasonal festival. And he has done ever since, selling nothing more than 1 or 2 apples. 1 very good apple so to seem. The party could deduct that the blokes were talking about a Kobold, who apparently could speak a few words of common. Korky, the local cleric, once became extremely sick after eating one of these apples. She has bought every one them ever since.

After having a few more pints we headed off to the towns temple to talk to Korky and inspect the body of Roda.
1. Korky, a gnome cleric, looked sickly white, with black, necrotic wounds on her arms.
2. She tells us the apples are either good or bad. The good have healing properties, the bad ones contain some of the strongest poisons she has seen... and she has ate one.... In order to stay alive she now uses the good ones to brew potions of healing with them.
3. The remains of Roda are sickeningly torn apart. Probably the work of the Griffon which has made its house out of the nearby ruins.

We decided, under my guidance to attend the festival in the evening. Fast forward, after a couple of the best pints of beer ever (damn this owlbeer!) I made the best flute duet with Phillip. Truly marvelous!
Also, the rest of the party did something with the Kobold, called Meepo 'keeper of Dragons'. Followed it, trapped it or something, not important. Apparently he came from the ruins, works for a guy called Yusdrasyl the 'Leader of dragons'. Discovered nothing more. That dragon vibe looks interesting though.
Anyhow, more importantly, I made some great discoveries during the festival.
1. A group of adventures have set up camp south of Stonehill. They call themselves 'The Burning Mace' and are 8 men strong. They are also looking for the sword in the ruins.
2. Not really sure how to feel about them.

Finally, Nemeia got us all locked up in the prison, which we got let out of when word came from Merynak to release us. Nemeia on the other hand decided to prison break out and is now a fugitive.

The cast

Farron
Nefaris
Lugdar
Barika
Dawn, Vengence

Excerpt from Lugdar's diary

Today was not a good day... and I may be making the biggest understatement since I began keeping this diary.

Early in morning our group, now only 3 strong, prepared to leave towards the castle ruins in search of the griffon. We had barely left the keep when we met a feisty dwarf who, much to my dismay, immediately came towards me to hold a conversation and I feared also to challenge me to a bout of fisticuffs... Luckily the latter was not the case, though he was uncomfortably familiar in conversation right away and without Dragar and Albert nobody seemed to want to save me from this guy. Eventually he decided to join us on our quest.

We had travelled a fair few miles when we stumbled upon a hunter, who would turn out to be the one we could not find yesterday. He spoke of the goblins and the ruins, saying such things as that the griffon isn't a griffon at all but something much more dangerous. While he would not tell us the whole truth, he really did not the the true identity of the beast and would not join us to defeat it. Rather he wanted to work on his own to capture it alive. We parted with some tension between us.

We were following the road towards the ruins when someone activated a signalling trap. Goblin scouts retreated and the dwarf made chase, though he failed in stopping them. When we rejoined him he was flanked by a weird elf on an even weirder horse. The day seemed to only be getting worse. Why is it we only gather more and more weird people? Why can't our group just be normal? Maybe I should just have stayed in town with Dragar, helped him to restore the keep to working condition. Anyway, the dude was weird and talked in poems and stuff. As it was getting very dark we decided to set up camp at this location.

The dwarf took first watch and all was calm. Of course during my watch we get attacked by a couple of goblins and a weird blue ogre. Diary, the fight was brutal. The blue ogre was physically very resistant and even cast a devastating ice spell at us. Then there was a goblin who disappeared and kept showering us in more very strong spells. There were a couple more goblins but they fell easily and swiftly, as goblins should! Honestly I don't know how I survived the fight. Eventually the invisible ones spells stopped and the blue ogre was killed, but the damage was done... Our new companions were dead and Farron died as I was trying to heal him. I barely managed to stabilise Nefaris. She luckily had a potion on her, so I managed to revive her in case the spellcaster returned. I patrolled our now destroyed camp while Nefaris rested and he eventually appeared, I assume his spell had worn out. Stupid of him to stick around. At least I was able to have a little vengeance, there now only exist a small puddle of goblin goop.

Nefaris and I spent the next 2 days herding the weird horse thing back to Stonehill, dragging our friend and the new guys with us. One of the spells cast transformed them into ice after their death. Though strangely they don't seem to be melting, or at least incredibly slowly. We had hoped Corki would be able to help us, but she was not powerful enough. We held a funeral in the town for them, we don't expect we can save them. They are now hidden somewhere cold in the castle, just in case.

Diary, we are taking a few days rest and then heading out again. Honestly I do not care if I have to on my own, as the dangers may put off the others, but I will see that my friend is avenged. The goblins and whatever else may be helping them will pay... Also, it is a very good excuse to not be in town. The people here are much to talkative and nosey.

Write again soon, hopefully with the cheerful news of dead goblins.

The letter.

Post  MaximVanrusselt on Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:18 pm

The Letter

Nefaris
Lugdar
Lucius
'Malfidus' Character Lennert placeholder
Awakened

Excerpts from Lugdar's diary

Dear Diary,

Unfortunately there were still no goblins killed today, Dragar and the rest are still working on the best course of action. Though I am certain that with him at the helm the best solution to crush them into oblivion will be found. Instead myself, Nefaris and 3 newbies set out north to Birchcreek. One of the newbies, I think his name is Lucius, says he saw something there that may lead us to a Shambling Mound. I'd rather not go helping the goblins, but it's better to be prepared and able to just in case we need more time.
Anyway, the 3 newbies... There's LENNERT CHARACTER HERE, she seems to be the most normal of the bunch. She seems to have a skill set similar to Dragar and seems reasonably nice, though for some reason Nefaris does not like her. Next is Lucius. Muscly guy, looks reliable. No idea what he's capable of however. Also he's a bit of a dickhead. Lastly another traveling weirdo with too many names that keep changing appeared. Claims to be the brother of the last one. Let's hope he's more capable than his brother.

Not much else happened today, just travelling.
Lugdar

...

Dear Diary,

Having arrived in Birchcreek yesterday, we set out to find the thing called a Bagiennik. It took a while, but we found him taking a mud bath. The mystic dude is in there with him now. We're waiting for him to get out and show us the way to the Shambling mound. At least we hope so, it's the dead of night right now and he's still not here... We found him around noon! Also I asked Nefaris how you play the Clubs and Hoops game. I'll go into more detail another time when I'm more well rested, but I can assure you it doesn't sound very fun or appealing.

Just an hour or so of night watch to go.
Lugdar

...

Dear Diary,

So we've got the core. It almost killed the newbies, but we've got it.

To catch you up: it's been a day since I've written. The morning after the watch we headed out to find the Bagiennik and mystic dude, they had apparently left without us. We did eventually find him, sans walking tree. The Bagiennik had shown him the birth spot of a Shambler (that's what I'm calling the mounds now, it's easier), so we followed the trail of no vegetation. The fight was apparently very eventful, I can't be sure, the thing ate me almost instantly. As I was killing it from the inside the others were fighting exploding spore things.
Afterwards me and Nefaris were okay. Unfortunately the newbies had been poisoned. And so we've headed back to Stonehill through day and night without stopping to rest. The last few hours were especially tough as they fell further and further ill. They've all made it though, the cleric has cured them and they are new resting. And I'm going to do the same.

Good night,
Lugdar
